Movie Monday VI Perfect Creature Edition

March 13, 2008 at 10:21 pm (Movie Review, TV/Movies)

 Story:

This movie takes place in an alternate universe during the 1960’s. In this alternate universe people and vampires lived together peacefully. The vampires were known as The Brotherhood and they were the leaders of the churches and scientists. An influenza epidemic is spreading over the land and one brother by the name of Edgar decides to put himself into genetic testing. The brother couldn’t handle the testing and it forced him to start feeding on human blood to survive. He begins killing random females in the city until one detective by the name of Lily sees a victim and realizes it is the work of a brother. The brotherhood sends Edgars actual brother Silus to help Lily try to capture Edgar and bring him to justice. Silus begins to have feelings for Lily and when Edgar discovers this he wants nothing more but to kill Lily. Edgar then discovers if he bites someone but not kill them he can pass the infection onto humans. By the end there are alot of infected humans that need to be quarantined. That is the just of the story without giving the ending away.

Casting:

Dougray Scott plays the protagonist Silus and Saffron Burrows is police captain Lily. I find that both of these actors approached these roles very dryly. At one point in the movie I forget Silus is supposed to be a vampire and not a robot and I’m being serious. He hardly blinks and he shows little to no emotion throughout the movie. The only character that you can tell is trying to act is Leo Gregory as antagonist Edgar. His role as a villain is brilliant and he plays it to a t. He seems to be the only person able to show emotion in the movie showing anger and being very charismatic at some points.

Visual Effects:

The only real visual effects in this movie is the bite marks in the girls necks. They didn’t take the typical vampire approach and only have two teeth marks instead they have whole mouth marks which look ok for bitemarks. The other effect used is the makeup on the people that Edgar infects. They do a wonderful job with the makeup because the people actually look ill.

I really did not enjoy this movie. To compare it to to Underworld is an utter blasphemy in the name of vampire movies. Children of Men I’m not too sure about since I haven’t seen. The sheer lack of acting almost makes this movie unwatchable thank god for Leo Gregory or I might have just turned this movie off at the start.

I didn’t like the scoring out of 10 for that last review so I’m going to revert back to my out of 5 rating

Overall:

2 Stakes To The Heart Out Of 5

Movie Monday V Part 2 Automaton Transfusion Edition

March 11, 2008 at 6:09 pm (Movie Review, TV/Movies)

This movie is a new school look at the old school zombie genre. In my opinion this is the best zombie movie since the original Dawn Of The Dead. Don’t get me wrong there’s been some alright zombie movies since then but none as good as this.

Story:

A zombie outbreak in a small town strands Chris, Scott, and Tim at a small club concert venue. Jackie (Chris’ girlfriend) is at a party out at a random house in the woods and he has to go there to try to save her. He gets there and rescues her and takes her to their high school thinking it would be the safest place to go. They make it there but its not as safe as they hoped and most of the group pay for it with their lives. They eventually reveal how the zombies came to be but I’m not going to reveal it as I hate movie spoilers. All I will say is they leave it wide open for a Part 2 and I for one hope and pray they make it.

Casting:

Garret Jones stars as the metal music listening stoner main character Chris. Juliet Reeves is his “prep” cheerleader girlfriend Jackie. Next is my favorite character in the movie and not because we share the same name William Howard Bowman plays the character Scott. I say hes my favorite because at one point in the movie they have to pick up weapons to use against the living undead and his weapon of choice is a chainsaw. Rowan Bousaid is Tim the wise cracking guy and the guy who gives you the most laughs in this movie. Then there’s Ashley Elizabeth Pierce and Kendra Farner play the smoking hot preppy cheerleaders who are your typical bitchy characters you hope die early on in a movie. The same being said for Joel Hebners character Lance who is a preppy jock football player.

Visual Effects:

I have to admit that this is one of those movie I talked about in my Black Sheep review the blood is just really watery looking, however it doesn’t entirely ruin the movie for me. There are still tons of great gags in this movie one of my favorites and probably the most sickest is when a zombie rips a girls unborn baby right out of her stomach and eats it right in front of her. Right off the start of this movie is another of my favorites when a young man is pulled into one of those sliding tray things in the morgue but when he gets pulled in his body just folds up like an accordion. Speaking of accordion I never really mentioned soundtracks in any of my other reviews but this movie features a really good soundtrack sporting some very catchy rock and metal songs.

I’m going to introduce a new overall scoring system from this point in and it’s now going to be out of a 10 point rating.

Overall:

9.5 Zombie Limbs Out Of 10

By the way this movie was made in 9 days and with only $30,000 imagine how amazing it would be if they had more money and more time.

This will probally be my favorite zombie movie until maybe Diary Of The Dead I mean it can’t be as bad as Land Of The Dead

Movie Monday V Part 1 Black Sheep Edition

March 10, 2008 at 9:51 pm (Movie Review, TV/Movies)

If you want a movie that will make you laugh and also cringe at the incredible amount of gore go pick up this movie. The only movie I can think to compare this to is Shaun Of The Dead but instead of zombies it’s killer sheep. I mean seriously what is funnier than a fuzzy little sheep just disemboweling a person.

Story:

Henry grew up on a sheep farm in New Zealand  until one day there was an accident and he moved away. Ever since that day he had a phobia of sheep. He comes back to the farm when hes older to sell his remaining share of the farm to his older brother Angus. The only problem is a genetically mutated sheep is accidentally released and it soon infects all the other sheep. All of the sheep turn ravenous and begin killing people and if the person is lucky enough to escape with the sheep only biting them the person turns into a sort-of were-sheep. Henry eventually gets to the bottom of who began experimenting on the sheep and is suprised that it was his brother Angus’ doing. That’s all I can say about the story without giving away the ending.

Casting:

Nathan Meister stars as Henry Oldfield and Peter Feeney plays his “evil” brother Angus. The acting in this movie is very good all of the lines are believable and theres a bunch of just funny quotes in it most of which come from Tammy Davis as Tucker, Henrys guide around the town. The very cute Danielle Mason plays Experience who ends up with Henry and Tucker I’m not going to say how or why as to that is an important part of the story. Overall the casting and acting in this movie is very good.

Visual Effects:

The special effects in this movie are incredible. Watching a person turn into a were-sheep is insane. With the help of Peter Jacksons WETA Workshop this movie turns extremely gory watching a sheep bite a persons face off or rip a persons intestines out. The blood looks very good not too watered down and not to syrupy I cannot stand it when blood just shoots out like water.

Overall:

5 Flesh Eating Sheep Out Of 5

Lets just say after watching this movie you might not look at sheep the same way.

I’m Seriously Going To Be Broke By The End Of The Week

March 9, 2008 at 10:43 am (TV/Movies)

Went on another movie spending spree. Picked up a Limited Edition of Bubba Ho-Tep since I haven’t seen it in a super long time but I remember it being extremely funny movie. I also picked up Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny which is another of my favorite comedy movies of all time. Enough of the comedy onto the blood and guts section. I picked up Hostel since I got Hostel 2 the other day just so I can say I have them both. And since I never seen either of them but people praise them for being one of the most disturbing and gory movies made. I just love picking up unknown horror films to check them out because there’s no hype for them at all so there’s no feeling of being let down by all the hype. That being said I got this movie called Brutal which is described as Hostel meets Silence Of The Lambs haven’t seen Hostel but I enjoyed Silence Of The Lambs. Hey the movies called Brutal so it has to be brutal doesn’t it? After that I picked up 2 more of the movies from the After Dark Horror Fest. First I got Wicked Little Things that seems like it’s going to be sort-of like Children Of The Corn almost with a bunch of little girls. The second movie I got was Dark Ride which is supposed to be a slasher film and if you’ve read my blogs before you know I love slashers. The last movie I picked up is another one from the Dimension Extreme label and it’s called Welcome To The Jungle and I must say I think Dimension Extreme might just be my favorite movie label for putting out different extremes of movies from Automaton Transfusion to Black Sheep to Welcome To The Jungle. I just hope I can find Broken, Buried Alive, Storm Warning, Nightmare Detective, 13 Game Of Death, and Inside.

Not Another Spending Spree

March 7, 2008 at 9:15 pm (TV/Movies)

Went out with some friends of mine that haven’t hung out with for a long time tonight. While we were out I picked up some more movies. I picked up The Lethal Weapon Series on DVD because I’m a huge Lethal Weapon fan and all 4 Lethal Weapons for $12.99 can’t be beat. I also picked up Escape From LA to go along with Escape From New York. The last of the new movies I purchased was Automaton Transfusion which looks like a pretty interesting zombie film the cover is of a zombie ripped in half so I had to pick it up for the sheer fact of my love for gore. Our next stop was Gamestop where I picked up See No Evil starring another WWE Superstar Kane. I also picked up Jason Goes To Hell I know it’s not the best of the series ok it’s probably the worst but i need to complete my Friday The 13th Collection and the last piece of that puzzle is Jason X. GameStop had a buy 2 DVDs get 2 free deal so my 2 free choices was the after dark horror fest movie Captivity  and Cabin Fever which I never got around to seeing but I do know it stars Shaun from Boy Meets World and I’m wondering how it turns out.

Went On Another Spending Spree

March 6, 2008 at 7:36 pm (TV/Movies)

Went to Wal-Mart today picked up quite a bit of movies. I picked up the entire Riddick Trilogy that includes Pitch Black, Dark Fury, and The Chronicles Of Riddick. Dark Fury I’ve never even heard of so I’m sort-of interested in seeing what its about. I also picked up Hostel Part 2. Now I haven’t seen part 1 but I didn’t see part 1 for 9.98. I also picked up Black Sheep which looks like it’s going to be a quirky and funny take on the werewolf theme but instead of wolves it’s sheep. My next purchase was Perfect Creature which is billed as Underworld meets Children Of Men which sounds very interesting to me since I’m interested in the whole vampire genre. My next purchase was The Descent now I got this movie because I’ve heard from many people that it is a pretty good movie. Least but not last The Condemned starring Stone Cold Steve Austin. Now I’m a huge wrestling fan been one for a little over 10 years and I’m really interested in seeing Stone Colds acting debut. I leave you with this video. It escapes me when was Stone Cold and Booker T in a feud?
