Movie Monday IV Boondock Saints Edition

March 1, 2008 at 8:50 pm (Movie Review, TV/Movies)

This is going to be my first non-slasher film movie review and man did I pick the right movie to review. I got this movie because I’ve seen it plastered on loads of t-shirts and i figured hey if its on a t-shirt it must be good. I went into it thinking it might be alright but by the end of it I was blown away. The ending is sort-of lacking and left me with an empty feeling with little closure.

Story:

The story is your typical vigilante hunting down and punishing the bad guys. The MacManus brothers being the vigilantes are hunting down members of the Russian mob in their local town of Boston. The MacManus brothers believe that they are doing the work of god by punishing the criminals. During the entire movie FBI Detective Paul Smecker is following the brothers and trying to capture them. But by the end of the movie Smecker is questioning whether he really wants to catch the brothers or join and help them due to him losing faith in the legal system and wanting to take law into his own hands. That is pretty much the just of the story without going into the details of the awesome action scenes.

Casting:

Sean Patrick Flanery and Norman Reedus play brothers Conner and Murphy Macmanus the two original boondock saints. Their acting is incredible they have the natural Irish accent. Later they enlist the help of a inside member of a Russian mob family Daivd Della Rooco playing Rocco. Rocco is definitely one of the funnier characters in just some of the situations he gets in. His appearance almost reminds me of the dude from The Big Lebowski his hair and beard makes him look exactly like him. Willem Dafoe plays the homosexual FBI agent Paul Smecker whos searching for the MacManus’. The way that he just carries himself in the movie is funny to see. Since the last movie I remember him from is Spiderman it’s just funny picturing the Green Goblin doing some of the stuff he does in this movie.

I’m not going to do a visual effects review since this is just an action movie and most of the effects in this movie is blood packs being used with gun fire.

Overall:

5 Pennies Over Your Eyes Out Of 5

yes another perfect score but believe me I’m not going soft on these movies it was really an epically dramatic action filled movie see case in point below
