 Story:

This movie takes place in an alternate universe during the 1960’s. In this alternate universe people and vampires lived together peacefully. The vampires were known as The Brotherhood and they were the leaders of the churches and scientists. An influenza epidemic is spreading over the land and one brother by the name of Edgar decides to put himself into genetic testing. The brother couldn’t handle the testing and it forced him to start feeding on human blood to survive. He begins killing random females in the city until one detective by the name of Lily sees a victim and realizes it is the work of a brother. The brotherhood sends Edgars actual brother Silus to help Lily try to capture Edgar and bring him to justice. Silus begins to have feelings for Lily and when Edgar discovers this he wants nothing more but to kill Lily. Edgar then discovers if he bites someone but not kill them he can pass the infection onto humans. By the end there are alot of infected humans that need to be quarantined. That is the just of the story without giving the ending away.

Casting:

Dougray Scott plays the protagonist Silus and Saffron Burrows is police captain Lily. I find that both of these actors approached these roles very dryly. At one point in the movie I forget Silus is supposed to be a vampire and not a robot and I’m being serious. He hardly blinks and he shows little to no emotion throughout the movie. The only character that you can tell is trying to act is Leo Gregory as antagonist Edgar. His role as a villain is brilliant and he plays it to a t. He seems to be the only person able to show emotion in the movie showing anger and being very charismatic at some points.

Visual Effects:

The only real visual effects in this movie is the bite marks in the girls necks. They didn’t take the typical vampire approach and only have two teeth marks instead they have whole mouth marks which look ok for bitemarks. The other effect used is the makeup on the people that Edgar infects. They do a wonderful job with the makeup because the people actually look ill.

I really did not enjoy this movie. To compare it to to Underworld is an utter blasphemy in the name of vampire movies. Children of Men I’m not too sure about since I haven’t seen. The sheer lack of acting almost makes this movie unwatchable thank god for Leo Gregory or I might have just turned this movie off at the start.

I didn’t like the scoring out of 10 for that last review so I’m going to revert back to my out of 5 rating

Overall:

2 Stakes To The Heart Out Of 5
